Oraid I have the same issue. Works no problem for playing now. Poster stays the same when stopped and shows Coming Soon. Doesn't change to other posters from my collection. Use a Freenas server running NFS share. I use a media manager on my computer and have NFO files. Never thought much about it as unusually use Custom poster 99% of the time.

Here is my output

{"id":"VideoGetItem","jsonrpc":"2.0","result":{"item":{"art":{"fanart":"image://http%3a%2f%2fimage.tmdb.org%2ft%2fp%2foriginal%2fcJTnOO8BewJ5uvzQAZOeVoUWAzi.jpg/","poster":"image://nfs%3a%2f%2f192.168.1.17%2fmnt%2fDisk3%2fMovies%2fThe%20Lego%20Movie%20Collection%2fThe%20Lego%20Movie%202%20The%20Second%20Part%20(2019)%2fThe%20Lego%20Movie%202%20The%20Second%20Part%20(2019)-poster.jpg/","set.fanart":"image://http%3a%2f%2fimage.tmdb.org%2ft%2fp%2foriginal%2fwPRiV4TVpRCV2es81q0S1eRaUbm.jpg/","set.poster":"image://http%3a%2f%2fimage.tmdb.org%2ft%2fp%2foriginal%2flMHbadNmznKs5vgBAkHxKGHulOa.jpg/"},"file":"nfs://192.168.1.17/mnt/Disk3/Movies/The Lego Movie Collection/The Lego Movie 2 The Second Part (2019)/The Lego Movie 2 The Second Part (2019).mp4","id":869,"label":"The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part","title":"The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part","type":"movie"}}}pi@movienow:~$

I do have the same problem too.
Playing a movie from KODI 18.6 shows fine. Pausing works too (intermission).
After stopping moving you get a black screen with Coming Soon at top.

things to try:

1) Remove kodi password (if you have one)
2) try to rescan your library with KODI

I have no Kodi password.
I use Tiny Media Manager to scrape. In Kodi for content I use local information only.
I'll try removing source and clear my library. Rescan and post back.

Same for me and use similar setup. NFS, synology and TMM for scraping and writing NFO. Coming soon still doesn’t work after upgrading from 17.6 to 18.6. 17.6 didn’t work either. I don’t want to scan again with Kodi. I have animated posters and it’s a real pain in the butt to reset all those manually if I scan again.

Also playing now doesn’t work either. Banner switches to playing now but no poster. Do you think exporting library to let Kodi write the Nfo’s would fix it?

tinymedia manager in NFO settings has two options:

NFO format: KODI or KODI / XBMC < 16 (be sure to have select KODI)
NFO file naming: check only movie.nfo

let me know if it helps.

try to setup a dummy kodi (example in your laptop) , put just 2-3 movies (and let kodi scraping this movies) - and report back , if its working.
